Contemporary russia, spines richly gilt in compartments, floral gilt borders on sides, inner gilt dentelles, marbled endpapers. Neat repairs to heads of spines, upper joints just cracking, but a nice set. Signature of Arthur Forbes, 1837, on front endpapers.

SOLE EDITION. James Currie (1756–1805) of Dumfriesshire emigrated to Virginia where he led an adventurous life before returning to Britain and taking up medicine, practising in Liverpool. He is distinguished for being the first in England to make systematic records of clinical thermometrical observations. This extensive biography by his son includes some short original pieces and, in volume 2, correspondence.
